Looking Back on an Innovative, Exciting 2018

Posted by FarmLab Innovations on Dec 13, 2018

It’s hard to believe that 2018 is drawing to a close. It’s been a productive, enlightening year at FarmLab Innovations, and we extend our thanks and gratitude to all of our clients and partners. At the beginning of this year, we were focused on offering a litter amendment product to make growers’ lives easier. However our mission has always been to bring our lab to your farm, and in one of our conversations with a grower, we realized that dust buildup on fans was a continual problem. “We can fix this,” we said to ourselves. After hours spent refining our products, SWASHDust-RepelTM and SWASHHouseTM were born. SWASHDust-RepelTM is now successfully used to control dust buildup on fans in poultry houses, while SWASHHouseTM has found an important place in farrowing rooms in order to stop the development of organic matter.

While some were skeptical at first, when our products were put to the test, they quickly became an integral part of the sanitation routine implemented by growers all over the country. As you’ll see in the infographic below, over 1.7 million gallons of water have been saved on pig and poultry farms this year thanks to the use of SWASHTM products. In total, 4,789 hours have been saved using SWASHTM products to wash fans and related equipment! We look forward to continuing to preserve time and resources in 2019!

Throughout the year, implementation of our products continued to expand. It became clear that our products actually had uses far beyond what they were originally developed for. For example, SWASHDust-RepelTM is now used to treat the entire interior of poultry facilities, including water lines, feed lines, tunnel walls, and the panels that cover cool cells. It’s also used in sow farms to treat the fans inside the breeding and gestation barns.

SWASHHouseTM has also proved to have benefits for the poultry industry. Many of our customers are using it to enhance removal of chick down in hatch rooms. It’s also used in poultry breeder operations to treat nest box ramps and breeder ramps.

In 2019, we look forward to continuing to bring our lab to your farm as we solve problems, boost sanitation, and create efficiency for growers. In fact, in the new year, we look forward to releasing SWASHCool-Cell. The product is specifically designed to prevent buildup and maintain efficiency throughout the life of the cool cell pads.

If you’re looking to incorporate FarmLab Innovations products into your cleaning regimen in 2019, we’re glad to provide some information about getting the most out of our products. Here are some beneficial tips, tricks, and answers to frequently asked questions:

What is the ideal dilution rate for these products?

Both SWASHDust-RepelTM and SWASHHouseTM should be diluted at 25 percent. They can be co-applied by pre-diluting SWASHTM and a disinfectant into the liquid you’re going to apply, or the disinfectant can be incorporated into the SWASHTM concentrate and applied through an appropriate dilutor valve. If you have questions, please contact us and we’d be more than happy to provide guidance.

How long does the product last?

The shield remains in contact with the surface until high-pressure water is used to remove it, along with the soil attached to it.

Does it work on any surface?

You can apply this to any hard surface, including metal, wood, plastic, or even corroded surfaces.

How does the product work?

The products seal off the porous nature of surfaces, while simultaneously inhibiting the ability of organic matter to adhere to the porous surface.

How long does it take to apply?

On poultry farms, treating fans takes about 15-20 seconds per fan, inside and out. With farrowing rooms, you can expect it to take approximately 10 minutes total per room (24 crates).

How do you apply the product?

Many people are surprised to learn that there’s no need to obtain a special license or machinery in order to apply the product. Simply use a pesticide sprayer on the back of a 4x4. You can also use a garden sprayer or a power washer.
